# ChatGPT

> Connect CaptivateIQ to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server to ask about your plans, employees, payouts, and worksheets.

> [!WARNING]
>
> The CaptivateIQ MCP server is in early access. Tools, setup steps, and behavior may change.

Add CaptivateIQ to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server to bring your CaptivateIQ compensation and planning data into your conversations. Look up plans and payouts, review employee assumptions, and export worksheets using your live CaptivateIQ data.

## Requirements

* A CaptivateIQ account in an organization with MCP access enabled. During early access, the connector is intended for organization admins, and what you can see depends on your role. To request early access, contact [support@captivateiq.com](mailto:support@captivateiq.com).
* A ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace. Custom MCP servers are added on ChatGPT on the web.
* Permission to create custom MCP connections in your workspace. On Business, workspace admins and owners can add them. On Enterprise and Edu, an admin grants selected members permission with role-based access control. Workspace security restrictions such as Lockdown also apply.

## Set up CaptivateIQ in ChatGPT

**1. Add a custom MCP server**

On [ChatGPT](https://chatgpt.com) on the web, go to **Plugins**. Select the plus button, then select **Add custom MCP server**.

**2. Enter the server details**

Enter a name such as `CaptivateIQ`, an optional description, and the CaptivateIQ MCP server URL:

```text theme={null}
https://mcp.app.captivateiq.com/mcp
```

**3. Choose OAuth**

Choose **OAuth** as the authentication method. Leave the client ID and client secret blank. ChatGPT identifies itself to CaptivateIQ automatically.

Review the risk warning, select the acknowledgment checkbox, and select **Create as a plugin**.

**4. Connect your CaptivateIQ account**

When prompted, sign in with your CaptivateIQ account, and review and approve the requested access.

**5. Ask about your compensation data**

Start a new chat, type `@` in the prompt box, and select **CaptivateIQ**. Type a question and send it, for example:

> Who am I in CaptivateIQ?

ChatGPT should call `ciq_get_current_user` and return your name and organization.

> [!TIP]
>
> The plugin is not turned on automatically in every conversation. If ChatGPT doesn't use CaptivateIQ tools, type `@` in the prompt box and select **CaptivateIQ**.

> [!TIP]
>
> ChatGPT may ask you to confirm before it runs the export tools, because they start an export and create a file.

> Can't see any data? Check that you signed in to the CaptivateIQ account and organization where that data lives, and see [troubleshooting](/connectors/mcp#troubleshooting).
